$80.00 / On Sale
This amazingly warm muffler was hand knitted by artisans living in the chilly Himalayan regions of India where people know how to keep warm.
Firstly, the wool was hand-spun and then dyed with, madder root, one of the oldest natural dyes.
Madder has been cultivated as a dyestuff since antiquity in central Asia and Egypt, where it was grown as early as 1500 B.C. Cloth dyed with madder root pigment was found in the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun and in the ruins of Pompeii and ancient Corinth. The cultivation of madder needs sub topical climates and prefers moist soil and is cultivated in the foots of Himalayas in huge quantity.
The coloured yard is then hand knitted into this beautiful muffler.
The artisans receive fair wages for their work.
The muffler measures a generous 220 cm long and is soft enough to wrap several times around the neck.
